“It’s crazy hilarious.” David Cote, Time Out NY (4 stars)
NEW YORK – Gary Busey’s One-Man Hamlet (as performed by David Carl) takes an absurdist romp through Shakespeare, pop culture, and life in the theatre.
Gary Busey’s One-Man Hamlet (as performed by David Carl), is a critically acclaimed multi-media puppet show directed by Michole Biancosino (Artistic Director of the award-winning Project Y Theatre Company), created by Gary Busey (as imagined by David Carl), who has decided he will perform all the parts in Shakespeare’s Hamlet in order to prove that he still has “the chops.” Switching between beat poet narrator, puppeteer, musical theatre singer, action-movie director, and “great” actor, Gary Busey (as imagined by David Carl) plays each scene in the style he feels appropriate. A mix of high and low-brow comedy, Gary Busey’s One-Man Hamlet (as performed by David Carl), celebrates Shakespeare’s play by proving it is still relevant, applicable, and moving in the jaded, celebrity-crazy, meme-obsessed world we (and David Carl) live in.
Gary Busey’s One-Man Hamlet (as performed by David Carl) was produced by Project Y Theatre Company as part of The NY International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC) this August at Celebration of Whimsy (aka The C.O.W.), 21A Clinton Street, New York, NY. David Carl received an award for Outstanding Solo Performance. The show was extended as part of the Encore! Series for a run at Baruch Performing Arts Center.
Gary Busey’s One-Man Hamlet (as performed by David Carl) was created as part of the The People’s Improv Theatre (The PIT-NYC) 1st annual SOLOCom Festival in November 2013, where it was a hit among audiences and a standout among the 60 comedy shows featured.

[MEGA-TOP PICK]: Charismatic and hilarious rising star David Carl transforms into Gary Busey—and portrays child-like Busey doing a one-man version of the psychologically complex masterpiece Hamlet. The result is consistently inventive, joyful, and laugh-out-loud funny. Don’t miss the very best show of the recent SoloCom festival at the PIT upstairs theatre: Gary Busey’s One-Man Hamlet.
